Food Interaction: Reduced absorption for ampicillin & delayed obsorption for cloxacillin Administration: May be taken with or without food.Taking it with a meal may however minimize stomach irritation, diarrhoea and nausea. Pregnancy:Category B Storage: Store below 25 °C Missed dose: Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose. |
PHARMACOLOGY
Pharmacotherapeutic Group: Penicillin Antibiotics
Pharmacodynamic Properties:BROCLOX has bactericidal action. It inhibits the bacterial cell wall synthesis by interfering with transpeptidase enzyme. Ampicillin is bactericidal against non β- lactamase producing gram positive organisms and selected gram negative pathogens. Cloxacillin is a β lactamase resistant penicillin active against gram positive organisms including beta lactamase producing strains of Staphylococci.
INDICATIONS
Post Operative Infections, Bone and Joint infections, dental infections, osteomyelitis, SSTI, ENT infections, Gastroenteritis, RTI, Pneumonia, Gonorrhea
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
Adult: Per capsule contains Ampicillin 250mg & Cloxacillin, one capsule four times daily.Child: Each 5ml dose contains ampicillin 125mg and cloxacillin 125mg. 5ml four times daily.
ADVERSE DRUG REACTIONS
GI upsets, rash, urticaria, neutropenia, neurotoxicity.
Potentially fatal: Anaphylactic reaction
PRECAUTIONS
Allergy to cephalosporins, infectious mononucleosis, neonates with jaundice, convulsions, lactation
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Failure of oral contraceptives, increased rash with allopurinol, reduced bactericidal activity with chloramphenicol, erythromycin and tetracyclines.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to penicillins
