    PHARMACOLOGY

    Pharmacotherapeutic Group: Topical Analgesic and Anti-inflammatory Preparation

     Diclofenac:

    Diclofenac, a phenylacetic acid derivative is a prototypical NSAID. It has potent anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic actions. It reversibly inhibits the enzyme, cyclooxygenase, thus resulting in reduced synthesis of prostaglandin precursors.

     Methyl Salicylate:

    Methyl Salicylate is a rubefacient. It produces reddening of the skin by the dilation of the blood vessels and gives a soothing feeling of warmth. It is also called as counter irritant as it produces its action by counter irritation.

     Linseed Oil:

    The Omega-3 found in Linseed Oil is a naturally occuring antiinflammatory agent. It inhibits arachidonic acid induced inflammation.

     INDICATIONS

    Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Tendonitis, Bursitis, Sprain, Strain, Lumbago, Sports injury, Muscular Pain, Neck Pain, Frozen shoulder, Wrist pain

     DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION

    Apply in the affected area 3-4 times daily.

     ADVERSE DRUG REACTIONS

    Application site dermatitis, pruritus, erythema, paresthesia, dryness, irritation.

     PRECAUTIONS

    Salif Emulgel should not be applied to open skin, wounds, infections, inflammation or exfoliative dermatitis as it may affect absorption and tolerability of the drug. Salif Emulgel should not be allowed to come into contact with the eyes or mucus membranes.

     CONTRAINDICATIONS

    Patients with known hypersensitivity to diclofenac.

     PRESENTATION

    SALIF Emulgel: Each tube contains 30gms of Emulgel

    PATIENT INFORMATION

    Administration:Gently massage the Emulgel into the skin of the affected area. Allow the medicine to dry for atleast 10 minutes before you wear clothes over the treated area. Wash your hands immediately after using this Emulgel, unless your hands are part of the treated area. Do not wrap, bandage or apply heat to the treated area. Do not shower, bath or wash the treated area for at least 1 hour after you use Salif Emulgel. Do not apply the Emulgel to the infected skin open wounds or red, swollen or peeling skin.

    Storage: Store at 25 °C

    Pregnancy: Diclofenac-Category C

    Missed dose: Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
