    BRAND COMPOSITION DESCRIPTION
    HICLOX

    Each capsule contains:

    Amoxycillin Trihydrate BP equivalent to Amoxycillin       250mg

    Cloxacillin Sodium BP equivalent to Cloxacillin                250mg

    HICLOX is a white to slightly yellowish blend of powder filled in '0' size hard gelatin capsule having grey body and blue cap.

    PHARMACOLOGY

    Pharmacotherapeutic Group: β-Lactam penicillin antibiotics

    Pharmacodynamic properties: 

    HICLOX has bactericidal action. It inhibits the bacterial cell wall synthesis by interfering with transpeptidase enzyme. Amoxicillin is bactericidal against non β-lactamase producing gm+ve organisms and selected gm-ve pathogens. Cloxacillin is beta lactamase resistant penicillin active against gram positive organisms including beta lactamase producing strains of Staphylococci.

    INDICATIONS

    ENT infections, bone and joint infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, genitourinary tract infections

    DOSE

    Adults: 1-2 capsules three times daily in susceptible infections

     

    PATIENT INFORMATION

     Administration:

    • Should be taken on an empty stomach. Take ½ hour before meal.

    Food Interaction: 

    Delayed absorption of cloxacillin in the presence of food.

    Pregnancy:   Category B

    Storage: 

     Store in a cool and dry place; Protect from light, heat and moisture; Keep away from the reach of children.

    Missed dose: 

    • Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
    • Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose
    • Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
    CONTRAINDICATIONS

    Contraindicated in patients with a history of allergic reactions to any penicillins. Attention should be paid to possible cross-sensitivity with other beta lactam antibiotics, e.g. cephalosporins.

     
    SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

    Allergy to cephalosporins, infectious mononucleosis, neonates with jaundice, history of convulsions, lactation

     ADVERSE DRUG REACTIONS

    Serious AEs:  Rarely anaphylactic shock; pseudomembranous colitis. General AEs: GI upsets rash, urticaria, neutropenia, neurotoxicity, agranulocytosis (rarely)

     DRUG INTERACTIONS

    Probenecid decreases the renal tubular secretion of amoxicillin. Concurrent use with HICLOX may result in increased and prolonged blood levels of amoxicillin. Co-administration of probenecid cannot be recommended. In common with other broad-spectrum antibiotics, HICLOX may reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives.

     PRESENTATION

    Each box is supplied with 10 strips of 10 capsules in each.
