Pharmacotherapeutic Group: Proton pump inhibitor (PPI)
Pharmacodynamic properties: Rabeprazole is a PPI that suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the gastric H+/K+ ATPase at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell. It also promotes the production of gastric mucus.
Pharmacokinetic properties:
Absorption: Oral bioavailability: about 52% and peak plasma concentrations are reached about 3.5 hr after oral administration.
Distribution: Protein binding: 95-98%
Metabolism: Partially metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 isoenzymes.
Excretion: Metabolites are mainly excreted in the urine (90%). Half-life: about 1-2 hour.
Gastritis, zollinger ellison syndrome, duodenal ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), NASIDs induced gastric ulceration, peptic ulcer, acid induced dyspepsia, H. pylori eradication.
Adult: 20 mg once or twice a day

Hypersensitivity, children less than 12 years
Severe hepatic impairment, gastric malignancy. May increase the risk of GI infections due to acid suppressive effects. Pregnancy.
Headache, diarrhoea, skin rashes, pruritus, dizziness, fatigue, constipation, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, abdominal pain, arthralgia, myalgia, urticaria, dry mouth
May reduce absorption of ketoconazole and itraconazole. May prolong the elimination of diazepam, phenytoin and warfarin.
Each box is supplied with 20 strips of 10 caps in each.
